Oceanbound

Sail beyond the known.

A major expansion of the same persistent VanillaMonster world — not a seasonal replacement. This page is a development preview, not a launch announcement.

Same world, new frontier

Expansion, not replacement.

Oceanbound is planned to expand the same persistent world rather than replace it. Existing settlements, claims and history are intended to remain part of that world as the frontier expands.

Planned foundation

What Oceanbound is being built around.

Ships & crews

Controllable vessels, crewed and sailed rather than teleported between.

Expeditions & discovery

Maritime exploration and charting new frontier waters.

Cargo & trade routes

Moving goods by sea, connecting new ports to the existing economy.

Salvage & wreck recovery

Reasons to go looking in places no one has charted yet.

New ports

Frontier destinations that eventually connect back into the wider world.

Maritime reputation & licenses

Standing on the water, separate from — but connected to — reputation on land.

The frontier opens in stages

Wave I is the foundation, not the finish.

Oceanbound is planned to arrive in stages rather than all at once. Wave I lays the frontier's foundation; further content can expand the same world later without another expansion replacing it.

  • Wave I targetA staged frontier of approximately 60,000 × 60,000 — planned, not current world size.
  • Long-term directionExpansion toward approximately 100,000 × 100,000 over time.
  • The current world todayThe live Overworld is 40,000 × 40,000 and is not changing size because Oceanbound is being planned.

Built around real travel

No teleport shortcut for the sea, either.

The same philosophy that keeps VanillaMonster's overland travel meaningful is planned to carry over to the water: no command that replaces sailing there yourself. Physical journeys and real distance are intended to stay part of what makes the frontier worth reaching.

Discovery matters

Some of this only makes sense once you've found it.

This page deliberately stays at the level of what the frontier is for, not exactly what's out there. Coordinates, specific locations and internal mechanics aren't published in advance — finding them is meant to be part of playing Oceanbound once it exists.

Development status

This is a preview, not a promise of a date.

Oceanbound's core Wave I direction has reached final pre-implementation design, but Oceanbound itself is not released and has no announced date. Everything above — themes, scope and world-size figures — is subject to change as design and beta testing continue. Nothing on this page is currently playable.

The current world is live right now.

Oceanbound extends VanillaMonster later — the persistent 40,000 × 40,000 Overworld is already open today.
